【Ningbo】Fengzi 2024 ‘You Just Liked the Night Sea Breeze’ Tour

What is the feeling of always being on the road? Thoughts are free, and the mood is relaxed, as if there is always a thread pulling, always in one’s own safe area. What is the feeling of always being on the road, singing? As the annual tour is about to begin, Fengzi starts to think about the significance of this, whether he is still staying in that so-called safe area, and what exactly is that safe area.

Recently, Fengzi officially released his new single ‘New Bride’, which he had completed earlier. The melody is clear, pure folk, and the rich sincerity in the story has become a foil for idealism. He is a creator who is good at and used to expressing himself in music, labeling himself as ‘wandering’, actually just because of his freedom and cheerfulness like the wind. Every year, Fengzi sets out, and the determination to start is always because of creation, perhaps to reach other fields beyond the living scenes, or to collect some inspiration fragments for writing songs and creating. Walking, watching, and singing while walking can always keep his music fresh, in order to complete a vivid and vibrant presentation. In 2024, he continues to carry this freedom unique to Fengzi, preparing to set off and sing in various places. Thus, Fengzi’s annual once-in-a-lifetime tour, officially announced today, is shaking the sails on the wandering sea, chasing new light spots. The theme of this tour is ‘You Just Liked the Night Sea Breeze’. It is planned that the tour will take place around half of the winter, starting from Harbin in early winter in mid-October, and is planned to end in Kunming, which is spring-like all year round. Throughout October, November, and December, Fengzi looks forward to following the map, starting from the cities in the Northeast, going south, and then southwest, with his music, and completing a once-in-a-lifetime meeting with fans from different cities.

To find the meaning, as the annual tour begins, Fengzi starts to think about what his insistence on touring means. The question lingers, and he thinks about it repeatedly. ‘Until one day, when I was walking alone in the forest, I suddenly thought of the wandering poet Francisco in the book ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’. He is nearly two hundred years old, a performer who often comes to Macondo to perform his self-composed ballads. He added his own feelings along the way to these ballads, and the experiences and sights he encountered on his travels were all turned into melodies by him. He did this, from Macondo to the border of the Great Swamp area, without stopping.’ Fengzi feels that, like Francisco, this may also be the significance of his insistence on touring, to go to various places, to see friends, some are new friends, and some are old friends who have been listening to his songs for many years.
They stood beneath the stage, sincere and passionate, awaiting the songs of Fengzi, the tales of his journeys and new stories from the days they had not met. Speaking of which, it seems the initial question has found its most fitting answer. ‘Always on the road, singing, always in a self-safe zone; what is this safe zone?’ It is when the lights dim and the music begins, as Fengzi holds his guitar or stands before the microphone to sing, and the audience’s gaze directed towards him constructs a beautiful spotlight, a zone of light that belongs to him. In 2024, Fengzi’s tour – ‘You Just Liked the Sea Breeze That Night’ – is about to commence, and his new stories continue. He is working on his brand-new album, half of which is already completed. The theme of this tour is also the title of a song from his upcoming album, which we can look forward to. Beyond this, Fengzi continues to write his new stories in life, including the invisible old singer, field trips at three in the morning, and Nepalese villages beneath the snow-capped mountains – all of which he incorporates into his creative process, turning them into melodies. In music, he never stops; outside of music, he carries his songs and continues to wander, always ready to set off. Fengzi knows that the state he truly seeks to achieve is ‘singing freely.’ The full text is open on 11/17, Sunday, with the performance starting at 20:00. The exact duration of the performance is subject to the live event.
