Waibaidu Bridge

With a century-long history, Waibaidu Bridge is one of the iconic landmarks of Shanghai, carrying the historical and cultural heritage of old Shanghai and witnessing the rapid changes of the new Shanghai. It is a popular filming location for movies and TV dramas related to early Shanghai and a frequented spot for photography enthusiasts and newlyweds taking wedding photos. The Waibaidu Bridge is a steel structure bridge with a total length of 106.7 meters, spanning 52.16 meters between two spans. It serves as an important passage connecting Huangpu and Hongkou districts in downtown Shanghai, with separate lanes for pedestrians and vehicles. During the day, standing on the bridge offers a view of the Suzhou River banks, with old-style alleys on one side and modern architecture on the other, evoking a sense of the blend of old and new. At night, the surrounding landscape lighting makes the bridge more vibrant and lively, attracting the attention of passers-by. From the bridge, you can also enjoy the view of the Bund, with the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Bank of China building clearly visible, while the opposite bank of the Huangpu River is illuminated with the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel, Jin Mao Tower, and the Shanghai World Financial Center. In summer, it is particularly pleasant to enjoy the breeze by the Huangpu River, watch the people on the ferries, listen to the whistle sounds, and stroll around. The bridge is open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific operating conditions subject to the day’s opening status.
