The Xisha Mingzhu Lake Scenic Area is located at the southwest end of Chongming Island, the third largest island in China and one of the world’s largest estuarine alluvial sand islands. It is composed of Mingzhu Lake and Xisha Wetland, covering a total area of 7.8 square kilometers (11900 acres). The area was originally the main navigation channel of the South Branch of the Yangtze River and was also the region passed by the Chinese Ming Dynasty navigator Zheng He during his voyages to the Western Seas. As a station on the International Migratory Bird Route 5, the scenic area boasts unique and beautiful wetland, lake, and forest natural scenery, as well as distinctive water and land sports and leisure tourism, making it a well-known national ecological tourism demonstration zone.




The scenic area is known for its beautiful natural scenery and pleasant environment, with water quality classified as Class II surface water by national standards. Activities such as wild goose release, an 8-kilometer lake circuit, water and land fishing, amphibious vehicles, cruise boats, fish specimens, children’s playgrounds, and wetland forests and crabs, as well as the Xisha sunset, all allow visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the area and linger to enjoy the charm of the Mingzhu Lake and the intoxicating beauty of Xisha.
The opening hours are as follows: January 1st to July 2nd, 08:30-16:30; July 3rd to July 5th, closed on Mondays to Wednesdays; July 6th to July 17th, 08:30-16:30; July 18th to July 20th, closed on Tuesdays to Thursdays; July 21st to December 31st, 08:30-16:30.
