The Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Shanghai) is located within the People’s Park in the heart of the city, adjacent to the Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Art Museum, and Shanghai Museum. The museum spans two floors and, despite its modest size, regularly hosts a variety of exhibitions, including not only pure art displays but also popular brand and design exhibitions. Originally the site of a greenhouse within People’s Park, the museum retained the external glass wall during construction while undergoing extensive internal reconstruction. The venue maintains its excellent natural lighting and the outstanding view of the park, and with the addition of various facilities, it also meets the professional requirements of a museum. The total area of the museum is 4000 square meters; the exhibition area includes the first and second floor halls, totaling nearly 1800 square meters. All exhibition areas are equipped with professional temperature and humidity control facilities. Funded by the Gong Mingguang Foundation, the museum is dedicated to promoting contemporary art from China and around the world. Managed and operated by a team with rich curatorial and administrative experience, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art aims to cultivate an appreciation for contemporary Chinese and global art and design and to continuously advance cultural exchanges between Shanghai and the world. Opening hours: August 6th to September 30th, Tuesday to Sunday, 13:30-21:30; October 4th to October 26th, Tuesday to Sunday, 13:30-21:30; closed all day on Mondays during these periods; closed from October 27th to November 7th; closed October 1st to October 3rd. Essential visitor tips: 1. Smoking and eating are strictly prohibited inside the museum. 2. Please do not touch the art pieces during your visit. 3. No photography is allowed. If photography is permitted for special exhibitions, please refrain from using flash.
