Shanghai’s Cosmic Archaeology: A Scientific and Artistic Journey Through Spacetime

When we gaze into the depths of the cosmos, we are essentially traveling back in time. The mysteries of the universe are encapsulated within the stars, and interpreting the secrets of these distant stellar lights is akin to an archaeological expedition through time and space, known as ‘cosmic archaeology’. How do scientists and artists perceive the secrets of starlight differently? Cross-disciplinary collaboration has led to the creation of 25 unique artworks in ‘Cosmic Archaeology’. The core exhibits of the ‘Cosmic Archaeology’ exhibition are a result of a synergy between the Experimental Museology Laboratory (eM+) and the Astrophysics Laboratory (LASTRO) at EPFL, Switzerland, with support from the Swiss National Image Committee, Beijing Yuanzhen Culture Co., Ltd., the Department of Astronomy at Tsinghua University, the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and numerous artists from around the world. The exhibition is open from May 18th to November 17th, with specific operating conditions subject to the day’s circumstances.
