Ancient Town of Sijing

The ancient town of Sijing boasts a rich history and is known as the ‘Roots of Shanghai’. If we trace its origins back to the formation of a village in the Northern Song Dynasty, it has been around for more than a thousand years. Initially, Sijing was called Huibo Village and later renamed Qijian Village during the Southern Song Dynasty. It wasn’t until the mid-Yuan Dynasty, when the four rivers—Waibo Jing, Tongbo Jing, Dongjing, and Zhangjing—converged here, that it was officially named Sijing. Despite its significant development in recent years, the ancient town of Sijing remains relatively unknown compared to other ancient towns like Zhujiajiao and Qibao. It is open all year round, with access available at all times of the day.
