When it comes to the renowned ‘saints of love’ in Europe, besides Don Juan, one must also mention Giacomo Casanova. This historically real Italian playboy, adventurer, and author… is much talked about by posterity for his legendary life, and his tales have been brought to the stage and screen many times. The original Italian musical ‘Casanova – The Venetian Lover’ is adapted from the best-selling work ‘Giacomo Casanova – Song of the Rotting Wood’ by the renowned author Matteo Strukul. This historical novel was published in 2018 and has been translated into 13 languages, selling well in many countries. As a tribute to the 1600th anniversary of the birth of Venice, the city of romance, this novel-adapted musical underwent 33 preview performances at the beginning of 2022. It received a warm response as soon as it appeared and was officially premiered in Venice in December of the same year. It then toured various places in Italy, also receiving widespread acclaim. In December 2024, the original Italian musical ‘Casanova – The Venetian Lover’ will come to China for the first time, and as the first Italian musical to appear on the stage of Shanghai Cultural Plaza, it will meet the audience in Shanghai. The opening time is from December 20th to 25th, subject to the actual situation on site.
