The Shanghai Historical Collection Museum showcases a small portion of Mr. Zhang Jianming’s vast collection of over ten thousand items, yet it is already a dazzling array of beauty and splendor. Various sizes of old maps of Shanghai published in different periods are hung across the entire wall. At the stairway counter, there is an old-fashioned telephone and a 1940s English edition of the Shanghai telephone directory, along with old books and magazines. The physical exhibits are even more abundant: from gas lamps, biscuit tins, milk bottles, to staplers, blood pressure monitors, Fahrenheit thermometers, fire extinguishers, police batons, car license plates, bicycle license plates, doorplates, and even a checkbook from the Bank of America, as well as two century-old scales and a pair of 1930s handmade ‘He Ming’ brand men’s leather shoes… Each item uniquely reflects the living conditions of the people at that time. The museum is open year-round from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
