The Dom Pedro V Theatre, built in 1860 in honor of King Pedro V of Portugal, was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2005. The theatre is designed in the neoclassical Greek Revival style, which is small, exquisite, and filled with artistic and literary atmosphere. It continues to host small-scale performances to this day. The building features a neoclassical Greek Revival style with a predominantly green color scheme, complementing the dark green doors and windows, as well as the red roof. It harmoniously coexists with its surroundings while maintaining a distinctive character. Inside the theatre, the wooden floors and stairs exude a sense of history. In addition to the auditorium, the building houses a ballroom, a reading room, and a billiards room, among other facilities. The theatre is located in the Largo do São Francisco, which is also part of the World Heritage Urban Area, historically known as the Grinding Stone Hill. Although the area is not large, it boasts a tranquil and elegant natural environment with a concentration of cultural and religious landmarks. Upon stepping into the Largo do São Francisco, one is surrounded by ‘World Cultural Heritage’ sites, including the St. Joseph Seminary, St. Augustine’s Church, and the Ho Tung Library. The theatre is open year-round from Monday, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00. Accessibility services: Wheelchair accessible entrance.
