The Historic Centre is a historical district centered around the old city area. It is connected by adjacent squares and streets and includes more than 20 historical buildings. Due to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, most of the buildings in the urban area have the characteristics of a combination of Chinese and Western styles. It is better to start touring this historic district from the A-Ma Temple. First, take a look at this ancient local temple and buy two talismans for peace. In the A-Ma Temple Incline on the left side of the A-Ma Temple, there is also a Marine Department Building. You can take a look at this exotic architectural style. Walking forward through A-Ma Temple Street, you will unexpectedly encounter the Mandarin’s House. Admire the courtyard structure with Chinese Lingnan characteristics and Western-style carved windows, as well as the Praia Grande Square. Many film and television works are filmed here. Continuing forward through Gaolou Street to Rua de São Lourenço, you will see the Church of São Lourenço. This church is full of a strong exotic atmosphere. The spire roof is paved with glazed tiles. There is a cross in the gate tower, and bell towers are built on both sides. You can also go inside and take a look. Walking backward to Travessa da Barra can lead you to the St. Joseph Seminary and Church. There are copper bells of different sizes on the high tower on the right side of the church. You can also stroll around the Fuk Loong New Street area nearby. This place is also known as ‘Red Window Door’. It is marked by the red doors and windows of the two-story buildings along the entire street and is very distinctive. Turning right to Praça de Lobo de Ávila, you can reach the Dom Pedro V Theatre, the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, and the Church of St. Augustine. These places are close to each other and are all full of a strong European atmosphere, so it is very suitable to take pictures here as souvenirs. Next to the Avenida da Praia Grande, you can see the Macau Government House. If you come here in summer, you can see the special pink color reflected from the walls around the square. It is especially beautiful. You can sit here and take a break. Opposite the Macau Government House is the Senado Square. You can take a walk inside and buy some souvenirs to take back. Walking to the left from the Holy House of Mercy can lead you to the Church of São Lourenço. There are many religious murals inside that can be viewed. From here, you can directly walk to Travessa da Sé and reach the Lou Kau Mansion. This building with a combination of Chinese and Western styles is very worthy of a stop. On the left side of the Largo do Pagode do Bazar is the St. Dominic’s Church. There are two couplets at the entrance, which have a Chinese flavor. Then, follow Rua de São Domingos all the way until the end of the street. You will see the Ruins of St. Paul. This is also a local landmark attraction. Don’t forget to take pictures here.
