Lu’s Family Mansion

Lu’s Family Mansion, once the residence of the merchant Lu Hua Shao (Lu Jiu) family, is a quintessential Chinese-style mansion built with thick blue bricks. It epitomizes the gentle and delicate architectural style of late Qing Dynasty homes in the Guangdong region. The structure is arranged in a three-bay, three-hall layout with upper and lower stories, including halls, rooms, kitchens, and storage rooms. The building features multiple courtyards for ventilation and natural lighting. It boasts traditional Guangdong decorative elements such as brick carvings, lime sculptures, horizontal banners, hanging drops, and oyster shell windows, alongside Western features like false ceilings, Manchu windows, and cast iron railings. The fusion of these two styles offers a fascinating blend, reflecting the local residential characteristics of integrating Chinese and Western architectural styles. The mansion is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Important tip for visitors: To avoid affecting the public’s visit, any photography or filming activities, except for general commemorative shots, such as wedding photos or model shoots, must be applied for to the Cultural Bureau 20 days in advance. Only after receiving approval can such activities proceed.
