Tam Kong Temple (Tian Hou Palace) in Taipa

The Tian Hou Palace, constructed during the Qianlong era, is verified to have existed at least since 1785 by the inscription ‘Qianlong fifty years set’ on an ancient bell within the temple, making it one of the oldest temples in Taipa. Tian Hou, also known as Mazu, is believed to have been able to predict good and bad fortune since childhood. She is often seen as a guardian on the sea, aiding merchants and fishermen in overcoming disasters and turning dangers into safety, hence she is highly revered by the local fishermen. Originally, the Tian Hou Palace was quite large, housing precious ancient plaques, bells, incense tables, and other valuable cultural relics. Today, only the main hall remains and is dedicated to Tian Hou. The temple is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
