The 36th Macau International Music Festival

Music, like the shimmering stars in the night sky, has the power to touch our souls unexpectedly. This year, the Macau International Music Festival, themed ‘Brilliant Stars,’ invites top musicians and orchestras from around the world to gather and create a dazzling musical feast together. Looking up at the night sky, with its twinkling stars, it seems to tell countless stories. Puccini’s opera masterpiece ‘Tosca’ features the beautiful and moving arias ‘For Art, For Love’ and ‘Tonight the Stars Shine Bright,’ which have been charming for centuries without losing their allure. The Mariinsky Theatre from Russia will open the festival with this immortal classic, illuminating the starry sky. With brilliant stars shining brightly and the gathering of superstars, their radiance is boundless. Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis will make his debut in Macau, leading the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to perform with passion, bringing an ultimate and shocking musical experience to music lovers. Many beloved musicians known to fans are returning with honors—Leonidas Kavakos, the ‘true violinist in the eyes of violinists,’ will display his exquisite skills in performing immortal movements; the charismatic pianist Hélène Grimaud will join the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra to perform classical masterpieces; and the distinctive pianist Ivo Pogorelich will lead music lovers through the magnificent movements of the Romantic period. Jazz piano master and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Herbie Hancock is also returning to Macau, with his passionate performance eagerly anticipated. As an important cultural festival in Macau, the Macau International Music Festival has always been committed to presenting high-quality and diverse performances. The Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra will perform two symphonic events featuring Russian musical works; Kayhan Kalhor, Wu Man, and Sandeep Das will gather with friends, bringing a cross-cultural musical feast with their ethnically flavored instruments; Portuguese Fado diva Mariza will perform with the Macau Chinese Orchestra, reflecting the harmonious integration of Chinese and Portuguese cultures, a fine tradition in Macau; the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, acclaimed by the media as ‘a dazzling star in the musical sky,’ will perform two shows detailing the treasures of music. In this dazzling musical feast, there is also a multimedia program ‘The Nutcracker and I’ created by pianist Alexandra Dariescu, combining piano, ballet, and animated images to reinterpret the dreamlike and childlike story, with exciting performances that are captivating and hard to look away from.
In addition, the music festival has been creating a sky for local music rising stars through ‘Artistic Gems’. Many winners of the Macau Youth Music Competition will take the stage to show their skills and perform on the same stage with local professional orchestra musicians, shining with the musical splendor of the new generation. Coinciding with the joy of the ‘double celebrations’ of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland. Let us travel through this star-studded music journey and spend a wonderful time together! Opening hours: from October 4th to November 4th. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
