Liu Gong Canal Branch Remnants

Taipei, originally formed by ancient volcanic eruptions creating a lacustrine basin, saw its waters recede over time, gradually transforming into wetlands. As Han Chinese settlers moved in and constructed canals for cultivation, fertile fields began to take shape. During the Qianlong period, Guo Xi from Zhangzhou built an irrigation canal for farmers, which came to be known as the ‘Liu Gong Canal’. It is open all year round with full-day accessibility.
