Shakadang (Mysterious Valley) is located in Taroko. Here, there are magnificent mountains, clear streams and fresh air. Coupled with the flat and easy walking trail, it always attracts many people to come for hiking on holidays. The name of Shakadang comes from the fact that when the Truku people established a community here, they once unearthed molars. The local residents believe that this is a historical trace left by their ancestors, so they call this place Shakadang, which means ‘molar’ in the Truku language. The Shakadang Stream is about 16 kilometers long. The entire trail runs along the left bank of the Shakadang Stream. The stream bed is covered with large and small stones mainly composed of marble and gneiss. Because the slightly acidic water in the stream dissolves the calcium carbonate component in marble, the stream water often presents a beautiful blue-green color and the scenery is beautiful. There are 2-3 deep pools suitable for diving in Shakadang Stream. The depth is mostly more than 4 or 5 meters. It is a place where many diving enthusiasts make pilgrimages. Coupled with numerous waterfalls, there are many natural SPA waterfalls in Shakadang Stream, forming the beautiful landscape of Shakadang Stream. Opening hours: Open all day all year round. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on the day. Tips: 1. If you drive by yourself, since the Central Cross-Island Highway (Guanguan – Deji) has been interrupted after the 921 earthquake and has not been repaired yet, please pay attention to detours. 2. Some areas of the trail are on the river course. The round trip takes 2 hours. It is recommended not to go after rain (because the river is turbulent and prone to danger).
