Taiwan Science Education Hall

The Science Education Hall is a multifaceted exhibition hall equipped with a variety of scientific displays and numerous educational activities. The permanent exhibition areas include a rich array of content such as life sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and earth sciences. The special exhibition area conveys scientific knowledge in a lively and engaging manner. The Science Education Hall also collaborates with museums both domestic and international to host interesting science-related exhibitions periodically. Additionally, it features a dynamic 3D theater, a stereoscopic theater, an earthquake theater, a science library, and well-equipped science laboratories, all designed to broaden the public’s perspective on applied sciences. Are you brave enough to challenge your heart? The Science Education Hall features a sky bicycle, a must-try for the bold! Utilizing three principles of balance – the principle of levers, the principle of the center of gravity of a toppling toy, and the principle of tension – the five-story high sky bicycle is both safe and thrilling. Put on your safety equipment, sit on the bicycle, and give it a try! You can also test the left and right rocking to press the bicycle, seeing if you can overcome the principle of the toppling toy and successfully press the bicycle! 【Principles Applied in Sky Bicycle】The interactive space bicycle, set at a height of five stories from the ground, demonstrates the principles of balance. Adults and children can personally experience relative balance and the principle of the center of gravity through the process of riding the bicycle. (1) Principle of Levers: Levers are used to save effort by increasing the distance over which the force is applied. When a lever is balanced under the action of an effort and a resistance, the principle of levers tells us that the moment of the effort about the fulcrum must equal the moment of the resistance about the fulcrum. (2) Principle of the Center of Gravity of a Toppling Toy: The high-altitude bicycle uses the principle of a toppling toy, equipped with a counterweight below the bicycle to maintain the center of gravity, which is why it does not tip over when riding at a high altitude. (3) Principle of Tension: The system is designed so that when the fully loaded bicycle reaches the center of the steel cable, the internal tension of the cable is controlled by the tension tower set opposite the platform. It can withstand 40,000 pounds, and when the steel cable is stretched by the tension, two springs wrapped in rubber in the tension tower will be compressed to produce a reactive force. Opening hours are all year round Tuesday to Friday 09:00-17:00; all year round Saturday to Sunday 09:00-18:00.
