Whale Watching at Hualien Port

As spring and summer approach, the eastern coast of Hualien, Taiwan, is once again filled with a vast expanse of blue. This is the season for whale watching activities. Boarding a boat to search for whales and dolphins on the open sea, relying on the communication of the vessel and the captain’s experience, we patiently wait for the appearance of whales and dolphins, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of whales. The operating hours are year-round from 07:00 to 22:30. Essential tips for visitors include: 1. Feeding whales and dolphins is prohibited at sea. 2. It is recommended to have a good night’s sleep the night before going out to sea; this ensures you are well-rested and less likely to experience seasickness. 3. Please arrive at the designated meeting point 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. 4. All passengers are required to carry a passport or other relevant identification documents for inspection by the Coast Guard. 5. Smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited on board. 6. Individuals with heart disease, high blood pressure, early pregnancy, and pregnant women beyond 26 weeks are advised not to board. 7. Playing, running, chasing, and climbing the ship’s railing are prohibited; please be mindful of safety when using stairs. 8. Please prepare for sun protection in advance: sunglasses, a sun hat, and a thin long-sleeved shirt (blouse). 9. Wear a life jacket properly. 10. When whales and dolphins first emerge from the sea, do not rush to gather on the same side of the boat.
