Beiguan was originally a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty. During the Jiaqing period, considering the terrain here, in order to prevent bandits from entering Yilan, a garrison checkpoint was requested to be established. There are two ancient cannons standing in the park. It is said that they are antiques cast during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. In the park, there are natural rock landscapes such as a one-sided mountain, tofu rock, and small headlands formed after tens of millions of years of erosion. The rocks stand in great numbers, which can be called a special landscape on the east coast. Amid the confrontation between huge rocks and the mountain terrain, there are stairs, footpaths, and a seaside pavilion. Everywhere in the garden shows the wonders of the seaside. Looking south from the observation deck, you can overlook Guishan Island and the Lanyang Plain. Looking closely, you can see the majestic sight of the raging waves crashing on the shore. The ‘Beiguan Sea Tide’ among the eight scenic spots of Lanyang refers to this place. The observation pavilion offers a clear view of the sea views such as Guishan Island and Waiao, as well as the panoramic view of the Beiguan area. Standing on the observation pavilion, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of Guishan Island and watch the raging waves crashing on the shore up close. Especially during high tide or sunrise, it is a good time to visit Beiguan. The two ancient cannons cast during the Jiaqing period stand facing the sea sternly. They have a history of more than 160 years. The old cannon bodies add more antique charm and also add a bit of old-fashioned flavor to Beiguan. Open all year round and open all day.
