Church of San Maurizio

San Maurizio is a Baroque Catholic church, not far from the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. The exterior of the church is simple, while the interior is extremely magnificent. It houses many 16th-century frescoes (mostly restored works) and a 500-year-old pipe organ that still plays. The church was originally an annex to the important local Maggiore Monastery. Now it is the location of the Archaeological Museum, where various items from Rome, Greece, and Etruria are exhibited, covering Milan’s ancient history. In addition, there are exhibition areas for the Middle Ages and Greek and Egyptian history. Inside the church, there is also a small Roman-era garden ruins. From October to June every year, on Sundays, following the Italian-Albanian tradition, the church also holds Byzantine celebration ceremonies in Greek. Opening hours: Open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 – 17:30.
