Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli

Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli, also known as the Church of the Holy Virgin of the Angels, was part of the Franciscan monastery in 1494. Inside the church, one can admire the stunning ‘Crucifixion’ fresco painted by Bernardino Luini in 1529. This Romanesque-style church is located at Piazza Luini, at the end of the Nassa shopping street, and is not particularly eye-catching from the outside. However, upon entering, visitors are greeted by a fresco that covers the entire nave of the church. The mural is akin to a vast tapestry. The ‘Crucifixion’ is considered to be a highly expressive painting in terms of individual scenes, with its vivid colors that are truly remarkable. Above one of the four altars, there is another fresco depicting the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child. The church is open all year round from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Accessibility services include wheelchair-accessible parking and an accessible entrance.
