The name ‘Stairway to Heaven’ originated from the time before the construction of the circum-lake highway, when visitors had to arrive at Wenwu Temple via waterways by boat and then climb the steps from the pier below the temple, hence the title

Ascending along the Annual Ladder Trail, there are 366 steps, each representing a day, symbolizing the passage of a year
The step stones are engraved with dates and the names of famous people from around the world born on those days
Visitors can find out which world celebrities share their birthday by looking at the dates on the steps
Additionally, the trail is interspersed with the twenty-four solar terms of the Chinese tradition, conveying a sense of fun, knowledge, and education
At the top of the trail, the Annual Blessing Pavilion offers a panoramic view of the entire Sun Moon Lake
The trail is open all year round, 24 hours a day
