Carp Pond is located in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, formed by the confluence of tributaries from the Papaw Creek and Hualien Creek, creating a barrier lake
The lake is vast with a depth of 15 meters, and the water remains clear all year round, originating from the heart of the pond
The pond has an elliptical shape that is longer from north to south and narrower from east to west, with its area varying according to the seasonal water levels
At the southern end of Carp Pond, there is a forest recreation area and a camping area, while the western foothills are home to the Yushan Theological College
By the lakeside, there is an Eastern Hill Fish Breeding Farm
The preferred route is to walk around the lake, where the morning mist envelops the area, creating a tranquil atmosphere
The surrounding mountains pour their verdant hues into the water, reflecting the white buildings along the lake
Willow trees flutter along the embankment, adorned with quaint grass pavilions, and a white statue of Guanyin stands on the slope of a small island in the middle of the lake, benevolently watching over the water
You may also choose to cycle; if you ride from the Hualien East Rift Valley to Carp Pond, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery along the way, and then cycle around the 5-kilometer lake bike path to savor the quiet lake area by yourself
Every June, July, and August, Carp Pond hosts a firefly season, with twinkling lights decorating the landscape between the mountains and the lake, attracting a large number of tourists to admire the fireflies
Additionally, Sally’s Restaurant at the visitor center north of Carp Pond offers light meals and afternoon tea services, with local specialty snacks such as taro, sweet potato crisps, and shrimp cakes that are worth trying

A must-see tip is that there is a well-planned ‘Carp Pond Bike Path’ within the Carp Pond scenic area; if time permits, you may choose to cycle
