Ouxian Ridge

Located near the Daguangba Reservoir within the territory of Dongfang City, approximately 60 kilometers from BaYou. Ouxian Ridge, also known as the Nine Peaks of E Niang, features a mysterious cave called Ouxian Cave, which is said to be bottomless with swirling waters crashing against the cave’s cliffs.

According to legend, a crow spirit once haunted this cave, causing harm to the local people. One day, the crow spirit kidnapped a beautiful Li ethnic girl named E Niang. On the third day of the third lunar month, E Niang’s beloved, A Gui, attempted to rescue her with a sharp knife and a bow and arrow, but was tragically killed by the crow spirit.

Overwhelmed with grief, E Niang avenged A Gui’s death by killing the crow spirit while it was asleep, thus ridding the people of a great evil. E Niang remained unmarried for the rest of her life and would return to Ouxian Cave every year on the third day of the third lunar month to sing the love songs she and A Gui had once sung. To honor E Niang, the Li people named the cave E Niang Cave, and the mountain was consequently called the Nine Peaks of E Niang.

Surrounding unmarried Li ethnic youth would gather at Ouxian Ridge on this day, dressed in their finest attire, singing love songs in search of their soulmates. This tradition has since evolved into the ‘March Third’ festival. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual situation on the day.
