The Yazhou Guyue Cultural Tourism Area is located in Jiyang Town, Sanya City. It is at the intersection in the direction of Wuzhishan on the East Line Expressway, with convenient transportation.
Yazhou is the ancient name of Sanya City. ‘Yue’ is the general term for ethnic minorities in southern China. Since ancient times, this place has been a settlement for Li and Miao compatriots. Li ethnic villages are mostly located on sloping land or in mountain basins with gentle slopes. Looking into the distance, those traditional Li ethnic houses such as boat-shaped thatched cottages, bamboo buildings, and golden-shaped houses are hidden among the green trees. The traditional residence of the Li ethnic group is a thatched cottage called a ‘boat-shaped thatched house’. According to legend, the shape of this kind of residence symbolizes that the ancestors of the Li ethnic group came by boat and settled here.
