Mingfeng Valley

Mingfeng Valley is a relatively representative and primitive tropical rainforest valley in Jianfengling. It is 2.5 kilometers in length. Walking around along the plank road takes about one or two hours and is not too tiring. It is named after many birds gathering here. There are unique tropical rainforest landscapes such as ‘thousand-year-old ancient trees’ and ‘buttress roots’, which are astonishing. Entering the scenic area and walking through the repaired wooden fence path, at first, you can still see the blue sky. The deeper you go and the more trees there are, the denser they become. The sky is completely blocked and almost no sunlight can be seen. Only randomly growing branches are intertwined with each other, showing the rough and unrestrained nature. In Mingfeng Valley, you can appreciate the diversity of tropical rainforest plants, breathe the fresh air with high negative ions, hear the beautiful bird songs in the valley, and see various flowers, vines, and ferns settling on towering ancient trees. Or a row of soft vines hanging down in the air forms a wide ‘curtain’. You can also climb into the hollow tree heart of the ‘buttress root tree’ and look up at the sky. A trip to Mingfeng Valley allows you to have a close contact with the rainforest.

Must-see tips: Strangulation: The seedlings of strangler plants are attached to the’supporting plant’ and grow aerial reticulate root systems that surround the trunk and extend downward until they reach the ground and form normal root systems. After absorbing nutrients from the soil, they grow rapidly. The reticulate roots expand and become reticulate stems, while the supporting plant is strangled to death. There are many kinds of strangler plants, such as the genus Ficus in the Moraceae family, the genus Schefflera in the Araliaceae family, and the genus Oxalis in the Anacardiaceae family, but they mainly live in tropical rainforests.
