The Qiongzhou Strait is located between Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province and Hainan Province. The strait is about 80 kilometers long from east to west. The north-south width is 39.5 kilometers, and the narrowest is 19.4 kilometers. The average width is 29.5 kilometers. It is an important passage for maritime traffic between Guangdong sea area and Beibu Gulf. On its south bank, there are major ports such as Puqian, Macun and Haikou.
