Bairen Tan

Bairen Tan is located approximately four kilometers northeast of Lingao County, and it was one of the eight ancient scenic spots of Lingao. Situated in the lower reaches of the Wenlan River, Bairen Tan is known for its peculiar rocks and stones in various shapes and forms, resembling a cluster of human heads from a distance, which earned it the name ‘Hundred Heads Beach’ during the Ming Dynasty.

In ancient times, the surging Wenlan River flowed from south to north through this beach. Due to the winding riverbed and rapid water flow, the water, encountering the obstruction of rocks, formed the plunging Bairen Waterfall, with white spray and a thunderous sound. The sound of the beach could be heard as far as ten miles away in Lingao County, giving rise to the famous ‘Sound of Bairen Tan’.
