The Guangdong Zhanjiang Mangrove National Nature Reserve primarily protects the mangrove ecosystem, which is one of the regions with a rich variety of mangrove plants in China, second only to Hainan Island. The reserve is divided into 72 protected areas, distributed in a belt-like pattern along the tidal flats of the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province. It is home to 24 species of mangrove plants, 82 species of birds including cranes, storks, and herons, as well as abundant shallow marine biological resources.

Besides enjoying the spectacular views of the mangroves, visitors have the opportunity to taste specialty delicacies such as locally raised meat crabs, locally grown pigs fed with seafood, local ducks, and sea duck eggs. The reserve is open all year round and accessible 24/7, although some attractions within the reserve have varying opening times, which can be inquired about at the scenic area.
