The Shanhai Mangrove Forest is located in Hepu County, Beihai City, connected to the sea and growing in clusters, making it highly representative of China’s mangrove resources.
Abundant sunlight and a variety of mangrove plants such as Rhizophora, Avicennia, and Sonneratia thrive within the forest. The seawater among the trees is home to various marine animals including fiddler crabs and mullets. It is also a true paradise for birds, inhabited by species like ospreys and white cranes.
When visiting the scenic area, one can stroll along the boardwalks. The higher, fixed corridor bridges offer a view of the vast green sea, with the sky and sea merging in the distance, creating a magnificent sight. The lower floating walkways allow visitors to traverse the mangroves as if walking through an endless green tunnel, occasionally spotting cute fish and shellfish living in the wetlands. During high tide, when the water level is sufficient, one can also take a boat tour through this ‘sea forest’ to observe the intertwined roots, the tenacity, and the vibrant life of these plants. The specific opening times are subject to on-site announcements. A must-see tip: it is best to visit during high tide for a boat tour, which offers a great viewing experience.
