The Dalang Academy was built in the 25th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1899). It is one of the relatively well-preserved academies among the 16 academies built in Pubei County in the Qing Dynasty. It has a strong Hakka culture and the ancient charm of books still remains. The entire academy is designed with three entrances and two wings. It combines the traditional structure of bricks, tiles, stones and wood with a small garden style. It is an ancient architectural complex that blends ancient Central Plains culture and Lingnan architectural culture. ‘The great accomplishment resounds like the bell of Nishan Mountain. The elegant literature is like the pearl of Pubei River.’ This couplet is engraved above the main entrance of the academy. In fact, the couplets of Dalang Academy are very rich in content. They truly reflect the educational thoughts of modern sages, inherit the style of Confucianism, enlighten the people, establish morality and govern the country. The purpose is profound. In art, the use of allusions is rigorous, the artistic conception is broad, rich in philosophy and full of charm. Opening hours: Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.
