Fanghezhou – A Scenic Spot in Jiaxing

Fanghezhou is located on the southwest side of the lake along Chengnan Road in Jiaxing City, facing the Southwest Lake Ecological Oasis across the lake. During the reign of Emperor Dezong of Tang, the virtuous chancellor Lu Zhi built a residential garden on Fanghezhou, which was named Hezhu due to the presence of a crane-releasing pavilion in the garden. In the time of Emperor Wenzong of Tang, the chancellor Pei Xiu built a villa on the island, renaming it Pei Island. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the poet Zhu Dunru lived in Jiaxing and reclaimed Pei Island as Fanghezhou.
