Guohu Suiliangwang Temple

The Guohu Suiliangwang Temple, also known as the ‘Seventh Lord Temple’, is a local temple established in memory of an honest official in the Ming Dynasty. According to legend, during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a drought in Jiashan area and people were suffering from hunger everywhere. At that time, there was a lord surnamed Jin. He was the seventh in his family and was called Jin Qi. He was a minor official in charge of transporting imperial grain. Unable to bear seeing the people starving, he took out the imperial grain for disaster relief. But he also knew that privately releasing imperial grain was a crime against national law, so he committed suicide by jumping into the river at Yanta Bay. To commemorate this good official, the local people raised funds to build the ‘Seventh Lord Temple’ to worship the Seventh Lord and the Seventh Lady. After the Seventh Lord committed suicide by jumping into the river, the imperial court found out the truth and posthumously conferred him the title of ‘Marquis Liji’. Later, he was further conferred the title of ‘Guohu Suiliangwang’. Thus, the Seventh Lord Temple was renamed as ‘Guohu Suiliangwang Temple’ at the same time. The gate of the Guohu Suiliangwang Temple is opened on the street. The front hall is newly built, and the back hall is basically renovated while maintaining its original appearance. Its architecture is very special. There are eaves in front of the hall, and the purlins and rafters are very exquisite and arched. On the threshold of the hall is a row of wooden floor-to-ceiling long windows, which is the decoration of the hall of an ordinary temple. Every year on the third day of the fourth lunar month, which is the birthday of the Seventh Lord, a temple fair will be held here and it is very lively.
