Kaolong Mountain is located at the southern end of Shanglin Lake in Cixi, Zhejiang, with a high elevation and lush greenery covering the mountain, where waterfalls roar in the valleys. Every aspect of Kaolong Mountain, from its mountains and waters to its stones and trees, is a testament to the wonders of nature, with no trace of artificial carving, just as its name suggests, primitive and unadorned. The mountain is divided into two peaks, shrouded in white fog throughout the year. Between these two peaks lies a valley, with rapid streams at the bottom, known as Kaolong Creek. On the Waterfall Ridge of the mountain, there are many wild mountain teas. Around the Qingming Festival each year, the tender buds emit a fragrant aroma. The ancient and famous ‘Xianming Tea’ is produced here. In the Tang Dynasty, Lu Yu mentioned in ‘The Classic of Tea’: ‘Yuezhou, Mingzhou, and Taizhou all produce tea, with Yuezhou’s being the best.’ Lu Yu also said: ‘In Yuyao County, there is a place called Waterfall Spring Ridge, known as Xianming.’ According to the records in ‘Yuyao Liucang Chronicles’: ‘Waterfall Ridge is located in Kaolong Creek,’ it is evident that the name ‘Xianming’ is well-deserved. When you taste ‘Xianming Pearl Tea,’ each pearl is round and firm, with subtle white hairs. Brew a cup, and the whole room is filled with fragrance; take a sip, and it refreshes the spirit, truly ‘fragrant as the orchid in the garden, round like a jade bead rolling on a plate.’ Kaolong Mountain’s steep peaks and dangerous ridges, along with the clear water and fresh air of Shanglin Lake, make it an excellent place for self-cultivation and health preservation. The scenic area is open all year round from 09:00 to 16:00.
