Wanling Lake is located on Shuijiangyang Avenue, Xuanzhou District, Xuancheng City. It was originally named ‘Alligator Lake’, and its figure can still be seen on old maps. Many out-of-town tourists and even some locals can confuse it with the Alligator Lake in the Yangtze Alligator Nature Reserve. To distinguish the two, on September 20, 2007, the Xuancheng Construction Committee and the Civil Affairs Bureau organized an activity to publicly solicit names for scenic spots. The requirements were that the name should reflect natural geographical features, be rich in connotations, have elegant meanings, be creative and not be identical. By February 2, 2012, ‘Wanling Lake’ finally stood out. Open all year round and open all day.
