Xiao Jiuhua Temple

Xiao Jiuhua Temple is located by the scenic Yingyue Dou Lake in Pingwang, established during the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Wanli period, covering an area of over a hundred acres with more than 300 halls and pavilions, it is one of the famous temples in the Suzhou area.

Moreover, it is renowned in the Jiangnan region due to the modern Buddhist leader Master Taixu, who planted osmanthus trees in the temple at the age of 16, was ordained, and later closed his retreat in Putuo, traveling and spreading Buddhism both domestically and internationally.


In recent years, Xiao Jiuhua Temple has restored the Mountain Gate Tianwang Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Three Saints Hall. It has also restored and rebuilt the Ksitigarbha Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Bell and Drum Towers, the Thousand Buddhas Pagoda, and is currently working on the restoration of the Sutra Pavilion, the Ksitigarbha Pavilion, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Pagoda, the Nianfo Hall, the Release of Life Pond, and the Memorial Hall for Master Taixu.


The temple frequently holds disaster relief, yoga焰口, water and land Dharma assemblies, life release and protection, and social welfare activities, attracting many pilgrims from surrounding areas.


Opening hours are from 8:00 to 16:30 all year round.


Preferential policies: Children aged 6 years old (inclusive) or under 1.4 meters (inclusive) in height are admitted free with valid identification. Free for children, students, and the elderly: Minors aged from 6 years old (exclusive) to 18 years old (inclusive), full-time university undergraduates and below, and elderly aged from 60 years old (inclusive) to 70 years old (exclusive) are eligible for half-price tickets (please purchase preferential tickets at the scenic spot).


Half-price for the elderly: Elderly aged 70 years old (inclusive) and above are admitted free with valid identification.


Free for military personnel: Active military personnel and retired military officers of the People’s Republic of China are admitted free with valid identification.


Free for disabled persons: Disabled persons and one accompanying person for severely disabled individuals are admitted free with valid identification.
