Yancheng, nestled along the Huai River and by the sea, was established and prospered because of salt. Over 2100 years of historical changes have nurtured the long and profound cultural heritage of Yancheng, forming the unceasing evolution of its civilization. To understand a city, start with its museum. The Yancheng Museum, founded in 1961, is a comprehensive museum dedicated to the study and reflection of local history and urban development in Yancheng. It carries the historical and cultural memories of Yancheng and narrates the millennia-old tales of Yancheng’s splendor.
The new museum, with a total construction area of 30,700 square meters, integrates collection, exhibition, research, education, service, and exchange. The overall architectural style is classical and elegant, featuring one basic exhibition hall, three special exhibition halls, and two temporary exhibition halls, displaying over 2,000 cultural relics and exhibits. Additionally, the museum boasts unique supporting service facilities such as the Social Education Center, Intangible Cultural Heritage Performance Center, Cultural and Creative Life Hall, and Dengying Café, creating a warm and tasteful space for cultural education practice and leisure. The museum is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-21:00; closed all day on Mondays.
