Zheng Banqiao, hailing from Xinghua, Jiangsu, was renowned for his exceptional skills in poetry, calligraphy, and painting, making him a prominent figure in the Qing Dynasty as a calligrapher, painter, and literary scholar, and the leading member of the ‘Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics.’
Zheng Banqiao’s former residence is a Qing Dynasty residential architecture with eight rooms facing north and south. The walls are adorned with white plaster and the roofs with black tiles, amidst which orchids and bamboos are sparsely planted. Inside, there is a bronze statue of Zheng Banqiao, replicas of his calligraphy and paintings, as well as his personal belongings on display. The residence periodically hosts small calligraphy and painting exhibitions to promote his artistic achievements.

The memorial hall houses a collection of 1,181 pieces, including 33 pieces of Zheng Banqiao’s calligraphy and paintings, 348 pieces by Jin Nong, Min Zhen, Zheng Luan, Liu Xizai, and others, and 833 pieces created by contemporary celebrities in memory of Zheng Banqiao and Shi Nai’an. The main display is titled ‘The Life and Artistic Achievements of Zheng Banqiao.’ It features the ‘Zhaoyang Zheng Family Genealogy,’ relics of the elder Banqiao, seven versions of the ‘Collection of Zheng Banqiao,’ replicas and photographs of Banqiao’s calligraphy, as well as related research papers, materials, scripts, inscriptions, and legendary stories.

The opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:30 all year round, and during the winter, the opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:00.
