Jiaoxi Village, a renowned historical and cultural town in China, is located in the northeastern part of Tianning District, Changzhou City (formerly Wujin District), and is currently under the jurisdiction of Zhenglu Town in Tianning District. Situated at the junction of Changzhou, Wuxi, and Jiangyin, Jiaoxi is a civilized ancient town with a history of over 700 years. The total area is 41.4 square kilometers, and it is known as the ‘Hometown of Grapes’ and the ‘Hometown of Dryers’. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang’s tutor, Jiao Bing, once taught here, hence the name Jiao Dian. Later, to counteract fire with water, the name was changed to Jiaoxi.
Currently, Jiaoxi preserves hundreds of intact buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the ‘one river, four bridges, five streets, thirteen alleys’ block of streets remains well-preserved. Some folk cultures such as the making of ‘Jiaoxi Mutton’, ‘Pickled Pork’, and ‘Foot Tread Cake’ are still passed down, and the production techniques and ingredients have not been lost, still exuding a strong historical and cultural atmosphere.
