Chongyang Palace

Chongyang Palace in Xinchang is one of the larger Taoist temples in Zhejiang Province, recognized as the 10th Taoist cave heaven, the 60th blessed land, and the Upper Clarity Altar of Taoism. It has become a popular destination for religious tourism in Xinchang County, following the Great Buddha Temple, due to its spiritual landscape, the profound history of Taoism, and the enduring Taoist lineage.

The Chongyang Palace scenic area is divided into four parts: the ‘Divine and Wondrous Zone’, ‘Taiqing Hall’, ‘Yuelao Temple’, and ‘Taoist Cultural Park’. The Divine and Wondrous Zone: Along the main tourist route, it includes the ‘Illuminating the Way and Establishing Virtue’ screen wall, ‘Gateway to the Mysteries’ archway, Wenchang Pavilion, Hall of Two Saints, ‘Confucius Asking Questions from Laozi’ mural, Zhuoying Pavilion, and the ‘Gazing at the Stars’ archway. ‘Illuminating the Way and Establishing Virtue’ integrates Confucianism and Taoism.


Yuelao Temple: Inside, there is the Hongxi Hall and living quarters for Taoist priests. Below is the Xiaoyao Building, which can be used for fasting and prayer on festival days, and as a teahouse for tea tasting and martial arts performances on regular days. In front of the altar, the endless flowing water from the east is stored in the ‘Yuqing Pond’. Opening hours: 07:00-17:00 from 4/10 to 10/10; 07:30-16:30 from 10/11 to 4/9.
