Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s Princely Mansion

The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s Auxiliary Prince’s Mansion, commonly known as the ‘Princely Mansion’ by locals, is located at No. 9 Tongzhen Guan Alley, Heping Street, Yicheng Town, Yixing City. Originally constructed during the Qing Dynasty, it was the residence of the Shi family. In the tenth year of the Xianfeng Emperor’s reign (1860), after the Taiping forces captured Yixing, it became the mansion of the Auxiliary King Yang Fuqing. It later served as the temporary headquarters for the Loyal King Li Xiucheng and is now a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu. The Princely Mansion currently consists of three sections, all featuring hard mountain roofs. The first section contains seven rooms with a depth of six bays. The second section has five rooms, with the main hall occupying three rooms and a side room on each side. The third section also has five rooms with a depth of eight bays. There are four murals on the east and west walls of the main hall in the first section, and the main hall in the third section also features four murals, all of which are works from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period. In 1985, the Princely Mansion was renovated and opened to the public as the Yixing Historical Relics Exhibition Hall. The second section serves as the main exhibition hall. It is open to visitors all year round from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM and from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
