Dongyuan Garden is located in the northeast of the ancient city, on Baita East Road. The garden is narrow and elongated from north to south, extending to Loumen in the north, and is adjacent to the Ou Garden across the river to the south. It borders the outer city river to the east and is adjacent to Cang Street to the west. Covering an area of 270 acres, with a water surface of 90 acres and a building area of 1400 square meters. Initially named Chengdong Park, Dongyuan Garden was the first new comprehensive park constructed after the liberation of Suzhou.

The vast lawn of Dongyuan Garden is lush and green, surrounded by a forest of cedars. To the east, there are buildings such as the Hanbi Pavilion and the Spring and Autumn Pavilion, which are elegantly situated by the water. Surrounding corridors, rockeries, ponds, and flowers and trees form a tranquil courtyard. To the west, within the towering white walls and black tiles, is the ‘Mingxuan’, a replica of a classical Chinese garden exported to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA, which has become a bond of friendship between the Chinese and American people.
