Yuantong Bao Dian

The Grand Yuantong Hall, the main hall of Puji Temple, is equivalent to the Mahavira Hall in ordinary temples. Yuantong is an epithet of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and this hall is dedicated to her. The hall is grand and majestic, with a facade of seven bays and a depth of six bays, featuring double eaves and a mountain-shaped roof, yellow glazed tiles, and nine-tiered dougong brackets, with the door’s central panel carved with a dragon playing with a pearl.

The hall can accommodate thousands of people and is known as the ‘Living Hall’. Surrounding the platform in front of the hall are stone-carved balustrades, and in the center of the platform stands a steel ding stove, approximately 4 meters tall, inscribed with words such as ‘Puji Zen Temple’ and ‘Thousand Autumns Treasure Ding’.

Inside the hall, in the center, sits the Guanyin Bodhisattva, standing at 8.8 meters tall (the statue of Vairocana Guanyin in the lotus position is 6.5 meters tall, and the pedestal is 2.3 meters tall). The statue is golden in color, with clear eyebrows and a kind smile, surrounded by her disciples, Sudhana and the Dragon Girl, who appear innocent and lively. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.
