Kaisha Island

Kaisha Island is located within Wujie Town, Tongzhou District. It faces the main channel of the Yangtze River to the south and is across the river from Zhangjiagang. It is 40 kilometers away from Tongzhou urban area and 10 kilometers away from Nantong urban area to the east, and 25 kilometers away from Nantong Airport. It is 6 kilometers away from Nanjing-Tongzhou Expressway to the north and is close to the high-grade highway along the river. It has a unique geographical location and very convenient transportation. The whole island is composed of four parts: Kaisha, Lisha, Dongsha, and Hongbeisha. It is the first island in Jiangsu section upstream along the Yangtze River estuary. There is currently one administrative village on the island. The planned area is 3.56 square kilometers, and the population is 1504. The people are simple and honest, making it suitable for tourism and living. The island has four distinct seasons, a dense water network, fertile land, and rich resources of agricultural and sideline products and aquatic products. In addition, the island is rich in animal and plant resources. There are many varieties of existing plants, and there are more than 30 kinds of wild waterfowl and birds. The large areas of natural wetlands and tidal flat resources also make it a region where the original ecological environment in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River is relatively well preserved.
