Jiulong Hall, also known as Yuantong Hall, is the main hall of Fayu Temple. In front of the hall, there are more than ten ancient trees, among which two large trees (ancient ginkgo and ancient cypress) soar into the sky – the ginkgo on the west side is about three embraces in circumference and is over 500 years old; the dragon-phoenix cypress on the east side is vigorous and robust, coiled like a dragon, and has a unique shape, making it one of the more famous ancient cypresses on Putuo Mountain.

On the front platform of the main hall, the three sides of the stone railings are engraved with twenty-four filial piety diagrams, taken from the stories of the twenty-four filial sons compiled by Guo Jujing of the Yuan Dynasty (filial piety is originally a part of Confucianism, but it is also described in many Buddhist temples). These reliefs are complete in composition, smooth in lines, and are considered fine works of Ming Dynasty stone carvings, possessing high artistic value. The opening hours are from 06:00 to 17:00 all year round.
