Avalokitesvara Gazing at the Sea

Avalokitesvara Gazing at the Sea is a rock statue approximately 6 meters in height and 2 meters in width, located on the upper right side of the release pond at Shengyan Temple, about 50 meters away from the Avalokitesvara Hall amidst a rugged cluster of rocks.
When looking up from the Mahavira Hall of Shengyan Temple, the stone pillar resembles the holy image of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, standing on a lotus throne with eyes gazing into the distance at the ships passing through Peach Blossom Port, hence the name ‘Avalokitesvara Gazing at the Sea Rock’. Its posture is graceful and the image is vividly lifelike.

It is said that Princess Miaoshan, captivated by the beautiful scenery of the mountain, often looked out at the sea below, eventually transforming into a rock that stands eternally here, protecting the ships that pass by.
