Bailong Temple

Bailong Temple is located to the south of the Yangtze River and to the north of Lake Tai, in Hengshanqiao Town, Changzhou, Jiangsu. It is situated right off the Hengshanqiao interchange of the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway. The temple, facing north to south, is built against the mountains, surrounded by water, with pavilions, towers, and halls that exude an extraordinary aura, and is filled with the fragrance of birds and flowers all year round.
There are numerous natural landscapes here, including the remnants of the Yellow Cat on Huangmaoling, which was said to spit gold during the day and silver at night before the Han Dynasty; the Ascension Platform from the Wei and Jin periods; the Inner and Outer Longtan formed by Cao Heng’s snake-fighting in the Jin Dynasty; and the Dragon Well, a sacred site of the White Dragon Goddess from the Song Dynasty, among others. The temple is rich in plant life, with various ancient trees such as ancient boxwood, ancient nandina, and ancient osmanthus trees thriving in the area.

In front of the hall, two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees (also known as the Trees of Love and Harmony) stand tall and reach for the sky, with thick trunks; five large cherry trees bear abundant fruit every autumn, filling the air with their fragrance. A three-hundred-year-old magnolia tree, with an upright trunk, blossoms with silver flowers every early spring, its scent spreading for miles. Unfortunately, after enduring the passage of time, it finally bid its farewell this year.

The sculpture of the White Dragon Goddess in the Inner Longtan is lifelike, and the Tai Chi Yin-Yang ball神奇地 rotates. The water in the pool is crystal clear, with fish and shrimp playing. From afar, the mountains are colorful, and up close, the water is silent. As people walk within the temple, a sense of returning to nature naturally arises. Every year from the first to the third day of the eighth lunar month, it is said that the Dragon Son returns to Hengshan Bailong Temple to visit his mother. Therefore, the area within dozens of miles becomes extraordinarily lively, and the temple holds a three-day opera performance to celebrate, which is now the Hengshanqiao Temple Fair. Four newly built statues of the Four Deities of Wealth (each 12.8 meters tall) stand solemnly and sacredly.
