Zhongchi is located in the center of Zhuge Village, directly in front of Dagongtang. It covers an area of 0.24 hectares. Beside it is a land area with inverse symmetry. Zhongchi in Zhuge Bagua Village is used as a threshing ground. According to the Book of Changes, ‘the southeast is yang and the northwest is yin.’ Coupled with the theory of ‘heaven is round and earth is square,’ the open space and Zhongchi form a yin-yang Tai Chi pattern. There is a well on the north side of the land and one on the south side of Zhongchi, which are exactly the fish eyes in Tai Chi. Around Zhongchi and the open space are all houses, forming a closed space. Along the pond is a circle of roads. At the west end of the north bank of the pond is the courtyard gate of Dagongtang. There is a small garden on the east and west. The green leaves of canna and the red pomegranate flowers set off the shadow of Dagongtang, which is sometimes reflected in Zhongchi. The south bank of Zhongchi is a steep slope. Several large houses built along the steep slope are one higher than the other when viewed from the north bank. Coupled with a row of small bungalows close to the water in front, it undulates, with the outline rising and falling sharply, presenting a majestic and beautiful scene. Eight alleys extend around Zhongchi, each with different characteristics, forming eight positions: Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun, Dui, and Qian. Dagongtang is located in the Kan palace position. A very deep alley leading east from the side of its main entrance goes uphill with layers of steps. On the left is a garden with lush shade, and on the right is the back wall of rows of houses. This alley leads to Jiqingtang, one of the eighteen halls in the village. The alley on the east side of Zhongchi is very straight and 100 meters long. On both sides are densely arranged door canopies with wooden eaves. Several Soviet-style brick-faced facades are particularly exquisite. At the end of the alley, turning right is the side door of the prime minister’s ancestral temple. The alley on the south side goes uphill. After climbing 50 meters up the steps, there are downhill stone steps. In this alley, there are multiple narrow alleys connected, leading to the back door of Jifenshangliting. The eight alleys seem to be connected but are closed, seem to be continuous but are broken. They are virtual and real, like a spider web and also like a maze.
The opening hours are all year round and open all day.
