This residence is a Taizhou-style quadrangle house, with its platform gate built from red stone slabs, inscribed with the positive text ‘Zhi Si Qi Ju’, expressing the sentiment of not forgetting one’s hometown while in office and not forgetting one’s duties while at home.

The courtyard is paved with black pebbles in the pattern of a plum blossom deer, symbolizing fortune, prosperity, longevity, and happiness. Alongside the path, there are copper coins laid in a chain pattern, representing ‘money paving the ground’.

The walls are adorned with the examination success announcements of the历代主人. Descendants of this residence have been a cradle of talent, with four county magistrates emerging during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. In 1905, the Tashan Enlightenment School was founded, marking the beginning of education in Qiantong and exemplifying a typical ‘family of scholars’.

It is open all year round from 08:00 to 16:30, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.
