Xiaoshan Park was built in December 1995. It was designed by the Landscape Planning and Architecture Design Institute of Beijing Forestry University and constructed by Changshu Classical Garden Architecture Company. The park covers an area of 100,000 square meters and is a medium-sized comprehensive park. According to the mountain terrain, there are Guancang Tower, Xingang Pavilion, Lanyue Tower, Shenyun Pavilion and Yilan Pavilion, which are well-arranged. On the top of the mountain, Guancang Tower is engraved with ‘Jie Tian’ and ‘Yu Sun’ written by famous calligrapher Han Tianheng. In the center of the cliff stone wall, there is a huge ‘dragon’ character covering dozens of square meters. Nearly 2,000 small carved ‘dragon’ characters are distributed around the huge ‘dragon’. On the north side of the foot of the mountain, there are Zuimoxuan, Wuai Pavilion, Yilan Pavilion and Penghuai Pavilion, enclosing a corridor. The names of pavilions and couplets in the park are all from the creativity and handwriting of famous masters. For example, at the north gate, there are ‘Converging three rivers and connecting four seas. The big port is very large. Facing the outpost and enjoying the beautiful scenery, the small mountain is not small.’ and ‘The water is like a zither and the wind is like a flute. The mountain is a garden and the sea is a neighbor.’ At the west gate, there is ‘Taking a rest in a blessed place. Spring follows people’s will. The mountain snuggles up to the clear stream and is beneficial for crossing great rivers.’ The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
