The Sha Menghao Calligraphy Institute is located by the picturesque Dongqian Lake, with pleasant scenery and charming views. The institute, featuring traditional Chinese architecture with blue bricks and green tiles, is a three-story building with national characteristics. Amidst the lake and mountain scenery, together with the surrounding buildings, it exudes an ancient charm and a scholarly atmosphere. The granite plaque of the calligraphy institute stands at the main entrance of the building. Inside, there are mountains and waters, rows of green trees, with willows being the main landscaping plants, collectively known as the ‘Garden of Ten Thousand Willows’.
Sha Menghao, a renowned Chinese calligrapher from Tangxi Sha Village in Yixian County, is a native of the area, with his hometown just a few kilometers away from Dongqian Lake. Throughout his life, he left behind many works, and the institute preserves a significant portion of them. On a small hill to the right of the institute lies Sha Menghao’s tomb, which is uniquely designed. The institute also hosts numerous calligraphy events every year, contributing to the popularization and development of the art of calligraphy. It is open all year round from 8:00 to 16:30.
